After having admired the splendid views of Mount Etna from Taormina, we start our trek by crossing a lavic desert, walking through lava formations and volcanic craters to see the volcano up close. We will then discover the Alcantara Gorges, one of the must-see attractions of Sicily. Hike deep into the wilderness, experience stunning scenery, learn about Mount Etna’s fascinating history with our exciting tour! To offer you a comfortable and hassle-free experience, we’ll pick you up directly at your accommodation in Taormina, Giardini Naxos, or the surrounding area, agreeing on a meeting point.
From there, we’ll depart by jeep or minivan to officially begin our adventure.
On Etna, we’ll hike together through ancient forests and lava deserts until we reach the Sartorius craters (a lateral cluster of seven craters), where you’ll be able to admire extraordinary views of the volcano and the surrounding landscape.
With the technical equipment we’ll provide (caving helmet and trekking poles), we’ll pass through a lava flow tunnel and finally visit the remains of one of the most significant lava flows, dating back to 2002, amidst views and atmospheres of unparalleled beauty.
After a refreshing lunch break (not included in the tour price) at a refuge at 1,500 meters above sea level, we’ll descend into the valley in the afternoon to explore the spectacular Alcantara Gorges: a natural canyon of volcanic origin characterized by imposing basalt walls up to 50 meters high. Here, you can dip your toes in the crystalline waters of the Alcantara River (very cold even in summer!) and walk through a unique landscape, sculpted over the centuries by the action of lava and water: you’ll be captivated by the immense and enchanting power of nature.
The tour is available year-round and is conducted in Italian and English. The price is €75 for adults and €59 for children aged 3 to 10, with payment to be made on-site. The offer includes certified guides to ensure complete safety during the excursion. Therefore, it’s suitable for everyone: families, couples, solo explorers, and groups of friends.

The tour will depart from Taormina, Giardini Naxos, and the surrounding areas. We’ll pick you up in the morning, agreeing on a convenient meeting point for everyone. For other locations (such as Catania), please contact your guide in advance. For any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
We’ll provide trekking poles and caving helmets. As for clothing, we recommend hiking boots and seasonal clothing, preferably layered (windbreaker, sweatshirt, and pants). Remember: temperatures on Etna are cooler than on the coast!
Aboard a jeep or minivan, we’ll set off to explore Mount Etna. We’ll enter pine and birch forests, immersing ourselves in the myths, legends, and fascinating stories of Europe’s highest active volcano. We’ll reach an altitude of 2,000 meters, where we’ll admire breathtaking views.
Along the way, we’ll explore a cluster of seven craters that form the Sartorius Mountains. We’ll pass through a lava flow tunnel and visit the remains of one of the most impressive flows, the 2002 eruption. We’ll walk through surreal landscapes, immersed in a volcanic desert that excites and surprises.
After the hike, it’ll be time for a well-deserved break. We’ll stop at a chalet located at 1,500 meters above sea level for a restorative lunch featuring authentic Sicilian dishes and typical products, surrounded by the tranquility of nature.
The second part of the tour takes us to the spectacular Alcantara Gorges. We’ll descend by vehicle to the River Park, a majestic canyon shaped by the volcano. The basalt walls, up to 30 meters high, tell ancient and fascinating stories.
We’ll reach a small beach at the entrance to the gorges and enter the canyon. The icy waters of the Alcantara won’t stop us: the wild charm of this place will warm your heart. Walking among the rocks of this primordial environment will be an exciting and unforgettable experience.

Most Etna tours are designed to be accessible to people with a normal level of fitness. Some experiences, such as summit crater trekking, quad tours, or bike excursions, may require greater physical effort. It is always recommended to read the details of each specific tour or request information before booking.
No specific experience is required for most activities. Guides always provide instructions and assistance. For quad, bike, or e-bike tours, basic familiarity with the vehicle is required.
Many excursions are also suitable for children, but the minimum age may vary depending on the type of activity (for example quad tours or high-altitude trekking). It is advisable to always communicate the children’s age at the time of booking.
The price generally includes an expert guide and, depending on the tour, any necessary technical equipment (such as helmets, trekking poles, snowshoes, or vehicles). Transfer service from Taormina is also included in the price.
Comfortable, sporty clothing is recommended, preferably in layers. Temperatures on Etna can be lower than along the coast, especially at higher altitudes. Closed trekking or sports shoes, a windproof jacket, and warm clothing in winter are recommended.
If the weather conditions are particularly adverse (heavy storms, strong winds, or unsafe mountain conditions), tours may be cancelled or postponed. In such cases, a rescheduling option is usually offered. If the tour is cancelled, since payment is made on site, you will not lose anything.
